Thousands eth0 calls and it is driving me nuts

Hi guys,

I have been having these problems for months now, I tried to get some help on Reddit, I have sent the report log to Devs but got no answer so there we go.

I have 2x Pi4 4GB running Debian 11 (Bullseye) running as primary and secondary DNS. I can take one down at any time and my home network won't notice it.

My Samsung QLED TV is having thousands of eth0 calls which make the whole thing slow asf if you try to access it.

2021-11-29 00:40:46 AAAA eth0 Samsung-QLED OK (cache) NXDOMAIN (0.2ms)
2021-11-29 00:40:44 AAAA eth0 Samsung-QLED OK (cache) NXDOMAIN (0.2ms)
2021-11-29 00:40:42 AAAA eth0 Samsung-QLED OK (cache) NXDOMAIN (0.2ms)

I have no idea how to stop this or what could be causing it in the first place.

I have a custom router/firewall running OPNSense with firewall rules that:

  • block any device other than Pi-Hole hosts IPs to request external 53
  • redirect those blocked devices requests to Pi-Hole
  • my smartTV has Google DNS hardcoded so I have created some rules to try to stop it.

Anyway, I hope someone could point me in a direction because right now I am more lost than onion in fruit salad

Thanks

I moved your post to Community Help, since this does not appear to be a Pi-hole issue. Pi-hole only receives and processes queries, and has no control over the content or type of queries.

Thank you. I will pay more attention next time.
