Spotify gets thru pihole's blocklist and others.
I have a DNSMasq server asking a pihole and then that pihole asks google. In series the leakage is less when going thru DNSMasq.
A possible fix please test the hosts file.
Had an error the other day trying to login.
Maybe a proxy out going outbound to get Ads.

I had to add i.scdn.co to enable cover downloads in spotify.
does wl.spotify.com needs to be blocked? I just registered on Spotify and to activate my account I had to enter that domain but it was blocked by some list, wondering how are you doing with this domain if it's needed for account activation.
You could disable your pihole for 5 mins then activate account.
I have also found the Spotdl GitHub - spotDL/spotify-downloader: Download your Spotify playlists and songs along with album art and metadata (from YouTube if a match is found). wont work with enabled.
