Good news both ping and nslookup worked as they should. I rebooted the pi and they still worked. Any other additional steps?
If its working then nope. Given the initial line of the original resolv.conf I expected it would be overwritten. If not then you should be ok. If it does happen agian then look to the resolv.conf file and see if it reverted back.

Should I also delete the resolv.conf.bak file?

You can delete that file if you want. Won't hurt anything.
