I´m the family's computer support, even though I´m not the best at IT.
Many of my older relatives have a single computer and no router.
Is there a possibility to connect a Raspberry Pi to a laptop or stationary Windows computer and let the Pi hole do it´s magic, filtering just this one computer this way?
Then the Internet traffic can come from a old ADLS modem or a WiFi dongle via mobile net directly into the computer but the Pi hole works just on the computer it´s connected to....? (Ethernet or WiFi dongle)
Something like https://alternate-dns.com might be a better solution, if there isn't a router in the network (just a modem with a computer attached to it).
I´d rather use the Pi hole software on a Orange Pi Zero or Pi Zero, IF I can use it to a single computer like I described above.
How can one bridge the Pi hole?
.....Or!
Is it possible to have a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3 with a WiFi/WiFi dongle,
attach the Pi to the computer via Ethernet then have wireless internet trough the Pi and Pi hole using it as a bridge this way?
If it´s possible, how?
My suggestion: Invest 10 seconds in asking your favorite web search platform. I get pages over pages with tutorials, just linking the first one here for you:
One important hint for this project
Please do NOT install dnsmasq as suggested in this guide. Actually, don't install anything, if you have Pi-hole, everything you need is already installed! pihole-FTL will do the same job for you:
Skip step 8, 9 and 10 (IMPORTANT !!)
Step 18 should simply be: pihole restartdns
Note that your Internet speed can be severely degraded by this as the networking performance of Raspberry Pi's is shitty. They are simply not meant for this kind of job. This isn't an issue with "normal" Pi-hole installations as they are not in a bridge configuration.
