Is it normal, to have only 1,4 % blocked?
Thanks for any help
Hello @discodad, welcome to the pihole community.
The percentage blocked depends on the domains on your adlists and your browsing habits. If you tend to access only "clean" sites the percentage will be low. If you tend to browse a lot of sides full of ads and trackers the percentage will be higher.
More important then the numbers is what you get/see in the end - if you still see a lot of ads you might need to add more/different adlists. If you see no ads your fine also with "just" 1.4%.
Or blacklist those domains that serve ads.
If you have a chatty client repeatedly requesting a domain that is not blocked (a time server, for example), this can easily drive your block percentage downward.
Take a look at the top domains on your dashboard. If there is one that significantly outnumbers the others, that is what is happening. Please post the output of these commands so we can provide more insight into what is happening on your network and Pi-hole.
echo ">top-clients >quit" | nc localhost 4711
echo ">top-domains (20) >quit" | nc localhost 4711
echo ">top-ads >quit" | nc localhost 4711
First of all - thank you for your time and suggestions!
I will try to do what you recommended
Not necessarily. You may have a lot of false positives if you dont have a good whitelisting or curated blocklists.
I saw 4-5 all-inclusive lists which provide over 5 milions of blocked domains... but could be hell...
There is no good percentage...
