Need to Know what this query is

I have the latest version of PiHole installed and I am seeing a lot of requests to ".". What is that and can I block it?

Is it just a . (dot)? Then it is the DNS root zone

The DNS root server hosts the root zone represented as a dot ( . ).

What client requesting this? Do you have unbound configured?

Is their a way to block these request in pihole?

If you block lookups to the root zone then you'll effectively disable all DNS.

So there is no way to mitigat a host requesting 100s of request only to .

Correct. What client is making these queries?

There is, fix the broken client or point it to another DNS server.

So beyond blocking the offending ip there is no other option like blocking root lookups?

No, fix the client.

Dont have access to the client so cant fix the client. So i will just have to block the ip.

Are you running an open resolver?

That question is not pertinent to the question i asked. And im fairly sure the only reason you are asking me that is to drone on about how it is not meant to be used as an open resolver and not actually assist with the original question.

I'll drone on and on then. Open Resolver == No help from us.

The question would apply no matter if it is or isnt open.
