There is „one more thing“ in Settings > WLAN > „your current WLAN Connection“ > the circled „i“ and „Limit Tracking of the IP address“ (or something similar)
This is using the relay servers as well. Check if this works for you in Addition to disable the Mail App settings without whitelisting something. Seems to work for me in 18.3.

Keep me in the loop, I’m having the same issue.

I have an open case with Apple too! I removed all adlist and the mail app works find. Or if I use cellular data the mail app works. So it has to do how Apple is processing the emails. As my outlook app with the same email address work fine.

  • I do not block ANY apple or affiliated domains, i.e. (.|^)apple.com$, (.|^)icloud.com$, (.|^)icloud-content.com$, (.|^)cdn-apple.com$ etc. are ALL whitelisted
  • I have BLOCK_ICLOUD_PR=false setting in pihole-FTL.conf file
  • I have Protect mail activity, Hide IP address, Block all remote content settings OFF/UNCHECKED in macOS and iOS Mail apps
  • I have Limit IP address tracking setting OFF/UNCHECKED in macOS and iOS Network settings
  • I do not use apple's Private Relay service, it is off, if needed I use other VPN services
  • I've been using iOS & iPadOS 18.x including latest 18.3, and macOS 15.x including 15.3 and I have NEVER EVER lived the push mail problem mentioned. There are approx 20 clients running latest and earlier versions of iOS, iPadOS and macOS in this network plus other windows and ubuntu machines all using pihole, all with similar settings, nobody ever lived any mail problems in this network.
  • pihole is serving baremetal on a Raspberry Pi 3B, Rasbian/Debian 10.13 Buster, pihole v5.18.4, FTL v5.25.2 nothing fancy

That makes sense as you have all of those white listed.

What is Apples Mail app doing different from Outlook? As Outlook works great on my phone and Mail it is slow to download emails. Around 15 to 30 mins but they all come through.

I just installed 18.3.1 and it still doesn't work.
