# Installing v6 when it releases

Just a quick question. Over the weekend I installed pihole on a pi5 (the prod version), but with the immanent v6 being released soon, would it have been a better idea to checkout `develop` and install it now, and then simply switch branches to `main` after its released or is that a bad idea?

Only reason I ask is to avoid having to reformat the card instead of installing on top of v5.

When V6 is released as master, `pihole -up` will get you on V6 with no need to reformat the SD card or reinstall.
