How can I restore Pi-hole's default ad lists?

Update 2018-08-06

As of v4.0, Pi-hole no longer selects a default set of lists. During install, you can enable a few suggested lists, but we do not add them by default. This document now only applies to versions < 4.0.

The default ad lists are stored locally in /etc/.pihole/, so you can just delete your existing list and then copy the default one back into place.

rm /etc/pihole/adlists.list
cp /etc/.pihole/adlists.default /etc/pihole/adlists.list

Then, update the gravity ad list using pihole -g or updating the ad lists via the Web interface.

Another alternative is to remove the /etc/pihole/adlists.list and then run pihole -r, which will also accomplish the same thing by repairing your entire installation.

Note: Depending on what version you are on, you may have a /etc/pihole/adlists.default, which is being deprecated for /etc/pihole/adlists.list.

This does not appear to be valid for 4.0?

The default lists are:

Starting with 4.0, Pi-hole no longer comes bundled with the default lists in the adlists.list file.

The option to add them, is given during initial installation, or when the pihole -r and Reconfigure is used/selected, post installation.

One can edit the /etc/pihole/adlists.list and add the ones above, followed by a pihole -g in order for the gravity lists to be updated.
