You can run Pi-Hole on a VM or in Docker on the Windows or Mac computer, but the easiest approaches to install it on a Pi or similar SBC. A Pi is inexpensive, reliable and does not draw much power. Note that the device on which you host Pi-Hole must remain running 24/7 to provide DNS service at all times; and a Pi is very good for this application.

yep, easy is best, forgive my ignorance, but can you give me an idea what a pi is? is it this? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-FUJISTU-AMILO-PI1536-15-4-LCD-WXGA/131524809679?hash=item1e9f7d53cf:g:TnAAAOSwYahbn8Um and a link to the setup with a pi please
just to be sure, once i put the software on the modem, the Pi-Hole still needs to be connected to the modem via an ethernet cable
thankyou for your help
Welcome to the forum.
The link you posted is for an LCD monitor... so, no.
You'll need a Raspberry Pi , any model is fine really, but I have linked through to the Raspberry Pi 4, which is the newest.
Once you've purchased one, there is a nifty getting started guide here , this is for more general raspberry pi usage.
In Linus Tech Tips new video on the subject, they've helpfully provided a guide to getting started with Pi-hole here .
Documentation for Pi-hole can be found at https://docs.pi-hole.net
