@Sean_Koors What is the full output of sudo apt-get update? You shared the output of sudo apt-get upgrade after seeing Error: Unable to update package cache. Please try “apt-get update”, but that was not the command listed.

I tried this (without moving the file to backup, but instead typing in 8.8.8.8) and it failed.

Is where it gets down to after running "sudo bash -x /etc/.pihole/automated\ install/basic-install.sh" that I found earlier in this thread. I have a similar error from another post and found this one.

I believe that most have troubles with their distro's software repositories.
If you run sudo apt-get update, the repos causing troubles like 404 errors are indicated.
To have Pi-hole successfully installed you need to fix those errors first.
These repos usually are defined in below APT config files:

pi@noads:~ $ grep -v '#\|^$' -R /etc/apt/sources.list*
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/raspbian/ jessie main contrib non-free rpi
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.list:deb http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ jessie main ui

removing this repository and running apt-get update/upgrade and pihole -r worked for me (freshlight).

apt-get update / upgrade completed flawlessly. Still can't get FTL. pihole -r didn't fix it either.

Tried uninstalling pihole and reinstalling... still tries to get FTL and fails to retrieve it.

Will follow this thread.

try the following steps

  1. run pihole -d for a debug token
  2. sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf
  3. change 127.0.0.1 to 9.9.9.9
  4. Save the file
  5. run pihole -r

if this process doesnt work please run another debug using pihole -d
