Do I need dnsmasq service?

Hi

I have been runnign Pi-hole on Debian Jessie a while now. It works/worked fine but today I had to restart my server. After starting upon, I realized that Ftl was not working and when I started it manuallyit complained about port being used already.

I realized that Dnsmasq also run on the system, although I do not know if it was installed by Pihole or Debian itself. After stopping the Dnsmasq service on ther system, Pihole and Ftl was able to start functioning back.

My question is this. Do I need Dnsmasq service? If so were there a port conflict? Maybe a system upgrade messed things up I do not know. I just want to make sure I am not running this in a half ass way.

No, you do not. Since V4, Pi-Hole has dnsmasq embedded in pihole-FTL. If you try to run them both they conflict on port 53.

This is now out of Raspbian support. Pi-Hole will run on Stretch and Buster.
