I now have my Pi.hole working fine with a few local DNS records so my local servers can be identified on the local network by other devices.
The one area I can't get working is when I tunnel into my home network when traveling via OpenVPN using the VPN server built into my Deco Mesh Router. I can tunnel in and work with any server on the local network if I use the IP address. I'd like to be able to use the DNS names I included in the pi.hole DNS records.
it might be, but I think it requires that I have more control over the OpenVPN server than I have. In the past I had an older router and with that I setup my own PiVPN on the same rpi4 as the pi.hole. But that seems to be depreciated.
This is not something I have to do a lot so keeping a list of IP addresses might be the easiest.
Here's what I got working. I did find that PIVPN is still supported. So I installed that on my pi.hole RPI4 and selected wireguard as my client/server apps.
I then turned off the Deco router VPN and added a NAT Port forwarding for Wireguard port to my pi,hole/wireguard RPI4's IP address.
The default setup seems to support using the DNS records in the Pi.hole. So I'm good.
