Cannot access http://pi.hole/admin or http://<ipaddress>/admin

Expected Behaviour:

with pi-hole installed and running I expect to be able to go to http://pi.hole/admin or http://192.168.1.16/admin and see the admin panel

Actual Behaviour:

when trying pi.hole:

This site can’t be reached

pi.hole ’s server IP address could not be found.

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

When trying http://192.168.1.16:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.1.16 took too long to respond.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

I've tried several things from reading through this forum all morning but nothing has worked. Previous installs on raspberry pi 3 b+ worked without a hitch, but this is a pi 4 so maybe there are some things I'm missing?

May you please mention what have you tried so far?

Is PiHole running but you can’t access the admin page? Or it’s not running at all?

You can check that by the command line
pihole status

Also check replies to this similar problem it might help if you didn’t check it already Pihole running, but can't access admin page

When I run pihole status:
[✓] DNS service is running
[✓] Pi-hole blocking is Enabled

I can't remember all I've tried because the pi shut off and i lost the command history. It's mostly been restarting various components like lighttpd service and such.
