Hey there, I'm new at Pi-hole.
first questions
1 - My infrastructure, I installed the pi-hole on Ubuntu Server 22 LTS
I put my 2nd physical interface connected directly to the pi-hole/ubuntu
2nd question
2 - DNS resolv: - As i searched on the internet and here, some people said to change local host dns nameserver 127.0.0.53 to any preferred DNS upstream, I changed it to google dns on my file resolv.conf
All this changes, is to try to solve WiFi connections, which I looked for a solution here on the Forum. One of this topic I found this: Go to Settings >> DNS >> and on the option Potentially dangerous option I checked Permit all origins. As said in the documentation, marking this option is dangerous. But if didn't do this, I can't access the internet on my WiFi network, laptops and mobiles.
4 - My router Mikrotik get IP address from my ISP by DHCP Client
5 - DHCP Server >> Network >> DNS Server pointing to PI-HOLE server.
6 - NAT >> DSTNAT>>redirecting to PI-HOLE server any query from my wifi network, the propose here is, If a user change their preferred dns on the laptop, it would redirect any dns query on port 53 to the pi-hole.
But, If I change to recommended Setting on Settings >> DNS I cannot access internet, I should really left this option as dangerous, Permit All origin, so just this way I can connect mobiles and laptops through the internet ?
3rd questions
7 - Last one - Dashboard Total Queries
when I click here, something wrong happens. It says an unknow error occurred while locating the data, I think I made a mistake, but I don't know how
Please upload a debug log and post just the token URL that is generated after the log is uploaded by running the following command from the Pi-hole host terminal:
okay, rdwebdesign I gonna do the upload of the logs at my lunch time, because I'm testing at home this project and I want to do it with connected devices over my WiFi network. The desktop is conected through UTP cable it's working fine. Which is my host of the virtual machine.
The pi-hole server is on a virtual machine on Hyper-V. I dedicated one phisical interface Ethernet 2 to the pi-hole.
This log was captured using the settings DNS >> Interface setting >> permit all origin. There're some queries on the log and I changed the resolv.conf too. And I try again click on dashboard Total Queries it brings me back the same error, this is because am I using pi-hole virtulized o hyper-v or version of the Ubuntu Server.
I gonna do another log upload later, using the configuration recommended in DNS >> Recommended setting "Allow only local requests"
Okay, I just tested it and now I can see Network overview, perfectly.
But, still have a question about DNS query, because when I changed it to Allow only local requests, my devices connected to the WiFi network doesn't navigate to any page. Just my desktop connected to the cable, works. So I changed it back to Respond only on interface eth0 and I ask you, is this insecure option or any of these 3 ? because that options works fine both on my WiFi network and cabled on.
